Youth Ministries

Greetings youth, parents, family, and friends! Welcome to “Imago Dei” the youth ministry of First Mennonite. We are glad you have chosen to check us out. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, please Contact Us and we will try to answer your question.

Currently, our youth ministry includes 6th-12th grades. We have programming on every Sunday and Wednesday nights throughout the year. Typically during the school year, we journey through Biblically based teaching series. The last Wednesday night of every month is reserved for an open discussion night where we have conversations about a variety of topics over a hot drink or root beer float. In the summer we are more relaxed and mix ministry up with special trips, mission projects, and other fun events.

We believe that becoming a mature Christian means that we are becoming more and more like Jesus. Therefore, our goal in youth ministry is to allow the Holy Spirit to transform us so that we might fulfill God’s will for our lives and bring glory to Him
(2 Cor. 3:18). As youth leaders, we are committed to disciplining young people in God’s Word and encouraging them to practically live out the faith in today’s culture.

Every Wednesday night 6th-12th grade students gather together in the youth room. The night begins with a combined group gathering for worship and then we separate our Sr. High and Jr. High students in order to speak to where the students are in life. Each Wednesday night includes a time for investigating God’s Word and opportunities for discussion. We strive to create a community that is centered on worship and a safe place where we can learn together.

Remedy Nights

On Sunday nights students gather at the church for “Remedy Nights.” Each night can be different and might include small group discussions, special fun events, or just a time to hang out with others. This is a time for students to develop friendships and discover that Christian fellowship can truly be a “remedy” for life’s struggles.ife’s struggles.

Extreme Team

Imago Dei youth are challenged to be a missionary wherever they might find themselves. The youth group desires to discover needs in the community and lend helping hands. Community service projects have included helping the local Compassionate Ministries, building relief kits for Pakistan, and hosting a scavenger hunt to collect canned goods for food pantries. We have plans to take a group to Haiti in 2012.

Events

We also participate in many events around our local area and in the church building. Different events we plan throughout the year include taking an annual trip to Cedar Point, spending a weekend at Camp Friedenswald, hosting “all-nighters” in the youth room, playing games at Fellowship Point, and traveling to local Christian concerts. These events are just some of the fun things that we like to do. They serve as a space for us to know each other better and to build new relationships.
